Create a Team

Interested in creating your own team for the Santa Run? By signing up as a Team Captain, your team will be given a unique fundraising page you can then invite your network to sign up through. Team members can register to join the event or donate on behalf of your team. 

To sign up as a team captain...

1) Select "yes" to creating an individual fundraising page during the registration process.

2) Select "yes" to would you like to join or create a team.

3) Enter your team's name under create a new team.

4) After you've completed the registration process, you will be sent a unique link to your personal fundraising page. You must activate this by clicking on the link in the email in order for your name to show up on your team's page. 

5) Modify your team page as much or as little as you'd like and make sure to share using the email and Facebook features on your team's page.

Note that in order for others to show up on your team's page, they must sign up to become an individual fundraiser during the registration process and activate the link sent to them (just like you did). If you have questions about this process, contact [email protected].

Questions about Tickets and Fundraising 

What is a Team Captain?

A Team Captain creates a Santa Walk ’N Roll team and invites friends, family, coworkers, or community members to join. People can register under your team name, donate toward your team’s fundraising goal, or do both.

How do I sign up as a Team Captain?

During individual registration, you will be asked if you would like to create a personal fundraiser and if you would like to start a team. Select “Yes” to both.

Can individual participants collect donations?

Yes. During individual registration, select “Yes” when asked if you would like to create a personal fundraiser. This will allow people to donate under your name.

I am a caregiver for someone with I/DD, or I am part of the I/DD community. Which ticket should I choose?

After choosing whether to register as an individual, join a team, or create a team, select the “Developmental Disability Community” ticket option. This ticket is free for individuals with I/DD. Each person with I/DD may also register one guest for free under the same ticket option.

What happens after I sign up as a Team Captain or individual fundraiser?

After registering, you can log in using the email and password you created during registration. From there, you can edit your personal fundraising page, add a photo, set a fundraising goal, and share your page with others.

You must activate your personal fundraising page by clicking the unique link sent to your email after registration. Your name will not appear on your team page until that step is complete.

How do I invite others to join my team or donate under my name?

Once your personal fundraising page is active, you can invite others to join your team or donate under your name by sharing your page through email, Facebook, or other platforms. People can also search for your name or team name on the event page.

Can someone join my team and also make a donation?

Yes. Someone can register as a participant, donate toward your team’s fundraising goal, or do both.

Can I participate without fundraising or joining a team?

Absolutely. You can register as an individual participant and simply enjoy the event.

I can’t attend, but I would still like to donate. Is that possible?

Yes. Select the “Donate” button at the top of the event page. To donate under a specific person or team, search for their name using the search bar on the event page.

I registered multiple people, but their names are not showing up on my team page. Why not?

To appear on a team page, each registrant must have a personal fundraising page. When registering someone else, make sure to select “Yes” when asked if they would like to become a fundraiser.

After registration, their fundraising page must be activated by clicking the unique link sent by email. If a registrant does not have an active personal fundraising page, their name will not appear on the team page.

I signed up to join someone’s team, but my name is not showing up. Why not?

To appear on a team page, you must select “Yes” to becoming an individual fundraiser during registration, even if you do not plan to actively fundraise. You will receive a unique activation link by email. Once you click that link, your name should appear on the team page.

I want to register multiple people. Why can’t I use the same email address for each person?

The registration platform requires each participant to have a unique email address, even for children.

For Gmail users, one workaround is to add a period somewhere in your email address. For example, if your email is [email protected], you could enter [email protected] for another registrant. Gmail will still send the message to your regular inbox, but the registration system will recognize it as a different email address.

For additional registrants, you can move the period to another place in the email address, such as [email protected].

Questions about the Event

Do I have to bring my own Santa suit?

Adult registration includes a Santa suit that you can wear over your clothes and keep after the event. Children ages 3 to 12 will receive a special holiday hat with elf ears. Festive holiday outfits are encouraged, and please remember to dress warmly.

How long is the route?

The Santa Walk ’N Roll route is about half a mile through downtown Harrisonburg. The march begins at Harrisonburg City Hall at 1:00 PM. This is not a race, so participants are encouraged to move at a comfortable pace and enjoy the music, costumes, and downtown holiday atmosphere.

I prefer to walk, use mobility supports, or move at a slower pace. Can I still participate?

Absolutely. Santa Walk ’N Roll is an inclusive, all-ages, all-abilities event. Wheelchairs, walkers, strollers, and other mobility supports are welcome.

Will the event be rescheduled if the weather is bad?

Santa Walk ’N Roll is a rain, snow, or shine event. Please bundle up and dress for the weather.

Will there be food and drinks?

Yes. Snacks, treats, and hot drinks will be available at Harrisonburg City Hall during the celebration.

Where should I park?

Winter Wonderfest may include downtown street closures, so please plan ahead. Public parking is available at several downtown locations, including City Hall, Turner Pavilion, and the Water Street Parking Deck. Street parking may also be available nearby. For the most up-to-date parking information, please check the City of Harrisonburg or Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance’s downtown parking resources.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes. Friendly dogs are welcome, but they must be leashed at all times. Please make sure your dog is comfortable around crowds, music, costumes, and other pets.

What kind of wheels can I bring?

Participants are welcome to bring safe, nonmotorized wheels, including wheelchairs, strollers, roller skates, skateboards, scooters, and similar options. Please be mindful of others, move at a safe pace, and wear helmets or other safety gear when appropriate.
